The paramount importance of quality control in our industry

As an integral part of quality management, quality control is a technical act whose purpose is to determine, thanks to specific tools and equipment, whether or not the machined parts are compliant with pre-established specifications. Those specifications can be driven by customer demands, technical or product requirements, requirements related to a quality certification, or a combination of these factors. Quality control therefore includes a decision of acceptance, rejection or rework of the controlled part.

To carry out that control on a product, it is necessary to determine its characteristics beforehand and to choose the tolerances within which the product will be compliant. The "controller" who will perform those checks has to be fully aware of those limits.

Our means of control

Our workshop is equipped with an air-conditioned control room entirely dedicated to the control of parts.

Focused on metrology, it gathers a set of technical means used for the dimensional control of the parts that we machine, namely:

  • A three-dimensional measuring machine CMM COORD 3: Equipped with robust mechanics, intuitive touch programming panels and the latest scanning technology, our three-dimensional machine allows us to measure with extreme efficiency, guaranteeing the excellence of our quality control.
  • A profile projector
  • Measuring columns
  • Control gages (smooth and threaded)

In addition to that, dimensional checks are carried out at each manufacturing stage, throughout the machining process, thanks to workshop tools available to our operators, who thus actively contribute to the monitoring of our quality approach on a daily basis (internal / external 2T / 3T micrometers, calipers, buffers, pins, etc.).

Finally, all our control tools are identified, engraved and regularly controlled by an independent external organization. As a result, we have access to a computerized follow-up of their calibration, which allows us to guarantee the highest quality in all our orders.

APPLICABLE QUALITY REQUIREMENTS

A dedicated team at the service of quality

At SMES, our Quality Control team works relentlessly to apply our quality system on a daily basis and to implement a continuous improvement approach aimed at achieving excellence in terms of quality. The team is composed of:

  • A Quality Manager: His main mission is to ensure full compliance with legal requirements and standards, as set out in our Quality Management System. Thanks to his daily presence in the workshop and his close collaboration with our operational staff, he guarantees the application of the quality system and pilots the continuous improvement process. He also represents the projects on behalf of customers on all quality issues and carries out internal and external audits to ensure the efficiency of the practices in place.
  • A Quality Control manager: Being responsible for the compliance of all our parts, she is in charge of organizing all quality control checks within the allotted time, according to regulatory requirements, as well as those of our customers. She also has the crucial role of developing our quality control system based on regulatory and normative evolutions, while also taking our customers' requests and the requirements of the various industries we work with into account.
  • A quality controller: His role is to check the compliance of the supplied parts, while contributing to reducing the risks of non-conformity. Thus, he carries out dimensional and visual checks of the parts in relation to the requirements stipulated in the order and ensures that the required documentation and certificates are provided in due course.
